Minutes of
the Meeting:
The
February meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order at
7:00 P.M. February 20, 2013
at Founaris Brothers Restaurant.
President Jeff Weaver presided over the meeting. There were 23 members
present and 3 future potential members (in about 10 years). Nice to see Dads training our youth about
the great sport of Bass fishing. It
also keeps the old farts at the meeting a little tamer.
Old Business:
Minutes
from the January meeting were waived.
The
Treasurer's report was given and accepted. Our bank where the Treasurer stores
all our entry fees and dues is packing up and leaving the area so a motion
was proposed and passed to let the E-Board decide on a new bank to use in the
area.
The
Booray report was given. No one caught a fish over 5 pounds last month so the
Booray has rolled over for this month.
See Bill Myrick for specific details.
Not
mentioned at the meeting but I would like to thank Mack Cramer for opening up
his house to us once again for Macks Annual Super-bowl party. This year it even included a Black-out
party. Youve all seen Mack in the
wild on tournaments so make plans next year to see Mack in his natural
habitat.
New Business:
50/50
Drawing was held
Half to Buddy Yates and the other half to the Special Fund.
New cell-phone lists were handed out for everyone. If you didnt get one see Jeff Weaver for a
copy. Real good idea to keep with you
on the water in case you need help from another club member instead of paying
outrageous fees like Frank Kelly to get out of sticky situations.
The
two day tournaments (March & April) are coming soon so our President
handed out a signup sheet for various duties required to make the cookouts
special. This way when Somebody is
asked to do it and Nobody does it Somebody and Nobody wont get
blamed. Well have a members name
instead to blame/praise. Just dont
ask Dave B. to get the Chicken. Anyway
if you want to volunteer to help make the cookout a thriving success contact Jeff
Weaver to get included.
If you
need a little more weight for your presentation in a smaller package see
Brian McCarthy for a special deal on Tungsten weights.
The
tournament director needs to know who will be attending the March
tournament. If you didnt make the
February meeting and intend on going to Lake Seminole give him a call to get
added to the list. Currently 24
members showed interest. If you
havent been to Lake Seminole you are missing out at a chance to catch a
Booray fish. Heres what the records
show for the last 4 years of fishing at Lake Seminole:
2012- 1st
place-13.92lbs & Bigfish-6.27
2011
1st place-27.47lbs & Bigfish-6.96
2010
1st place-20.51lbs & Bigfish-5.11
2009
1st place-29.23 & Bigfish-6.98
In
2011 the top Six places each had over 20 pounds of fish!
Lets go
get em and remember you need a Georgia Fishing License if you are going.
Safety Corner
Learning from others.
Seems
one of our club members fishing in a non-Hawg Hunter tournament found himself
in a potentially dangerous situation at launch time early on a cold February
morning. While transitioning from the
dock to the boat he decided to try out for the Olympic Gymnastics team by
seeing how far away he could push his boat while still standing on the dock. Turns out his legs arent quite as long as
he thought and he ending up joining the Swim team along with the fishes.
(Who needs a temperature gauge when you can
test the water yourself)
Cold air,
Cold water, and wet heavy clothes makes for a dangerous combination. Luckily he was not by himself and was
promptly scooped up with only his pride damaged. Lesson to learn though
is to always have a
change of dry clothes available especially during the cold months here in
Northwest Florida. One minute you are
the fisherman then you are the bobber.
Please
be careful on or in the water.
Notes:
From The Tournament Director
Another reminder-Dont forget
If you are a boater and wish to stay overnight
for the Millers Ferry Tournament in May, YOU need to make your own
reservation for the motel room.
Call Southern Inn @ (334) 682-4148
January
tournament results were given out. Great job to the top 4.
The
President and some members went over to look at the Cliffs Landing Launch
site where our February tournament was rescheduled from last month to be held
and without scuba gear they couldnt find the ramp under all the water coming
down from the north. So the E-board
met and made a unanimous decision to Change the tournament site to Perdido
River at Seminole Landing for our February Tournament. The rest of the 2013 Schedule will stay the
same as published unless any other unforeseen circumstances arise as the year
progresses.
The
Caravan was scheduled to leave Food World at 4:30am Saturday morning.
The Meeting was adjourned at 7:39 p.m.
9 minutes
longer than last month. Thanks Dave
for the detailed account of what you caught your fish on.

FebruaryTournament:
The
February Tournament was held on the Perdido River at Seminole Landing due to
high water at Tensaw. We had 19 members
fishing out of 10 boats who dared to brave the elements nature threw at us. The launch was uneventful and dry even
though we shared the ramp with another local club. However, it turned around quickly as the
rain rolled through just in time for blast-off. The weatherman was right
100% chance of
rain. The air temperature was
comfortable in the mid to upper 60s and it was a good thing too so you could
put up with being wet all day from the rain.
It was even raining at the weigh-in.
Thanks Dave B. for bringing your fancy tent to keep the rain/water out
of the weigh-in baskets.
1st Place
Jeremy Burkart
Jeremy only weighed in 3 fish but they were big enough to take
First Place honors. His 3 fish weighed
in at 7.64 pounds. They looked like
sisters from the same school. Speaking
of schools
seems Jeremy schooled his boater too.
Great job and Congratulations Jeremy!!!

2nd Place
Buddy Yates
Buddy showed us what his home waters are capable of. He caught 3 fish totaling 7.30 pounds
including his Big Fish of 4.40. Look at how the fish is tipping his shoulders.
(rumor has it he caught it under his
dock.) I Guess all that fish feeding
you do daily is paying off. With this
2nd place finish Buddy jumps back up into 5th in the
Top Six yearly standings.
Congratulations Buddy!!!

3rd Place
Brian McCarthy
Third place went to Brian with only 2 fish totaling 5.41 pounds of
which one of them topped the scales at 4.18!
Nice Fish Brian. This will jump
Brian up to 7th place in the yearly standings just 2 points behind
the Top Six. Brian, like Jeremy also
skunked his boater. Always a good day
on the water when you can beat your boater.
Hats off to Brian and Jeremys boaters for their selfless guide
service.
Congratulations Brian!!!
4th Place
Jeff Weaver
Rounding out the top 4 was Jeff with his 3 fish weighing in at 4.77
pounds.
With this 4th place finish Jeff has been in the money
3 out of 4 times this season tournament.
Jeffs 80% catch rate..16/20 is currently 3rd best of the club
stabilizing him in the 3rd place position for the season. Incidentally Jeff Skunked his non-boater.
Congratulations Jeff!!!

Tournament
Results:
We had a total of 19 wet members and no guests fishing the tournament with only
11 people who caught fish. Big fish honors went to Buddy Yates for a 4.40 pound
Largemouth.
No body caught a limit this time.
The
weather had a big impact on most of us except for Dave Dyess.
Total fish caught was 28 weighing 43.28 pounds for a 1.47 fish
per person and 1.54 lb average.
For the year end standings, we had 10 people advance and 13 declines. Remember you cant advance if you dont
show up for the tournaments. Top
advancer was Jeremy with his 15 points added for 1st Place. Top decliner was Dave Bock who let his win
last month get away from him. (Hero to
Zero in a month). In my defense
it
happened to Pro Chris Lane too
.he won the Classic last year and zeroed the
first day this year.
Also a big congrats to Bill Myrick for winning the golf-ball
draw at the weigh-in.
