Old Buisness:

Next month's meeting will be constitutional change proposal discussions. Make sure your proposals are worded to say what you really mean and reference directly the article being modified. As a point of order September's meeting is for discussion then the October meeting will only be voting on the proposals. Please email all proposals to the secretary in word format, also add your name to the proposal. Next month's meeting will start at 6:30 PM because it tends to get lengthy and we have to be out of the restaurant by 8:30 PM. Everyone should bring their donations for the October Fish Off grab bag.

Discussion regarding upcoming tournament due to possible weather problems from Tropical Storm Faye. Decision was made by Tournament Director to have the draw and notify everyone on Friday the intention for the tournament (either cancel or postpone). Any member not in the draw at this meeting for the next tournament is not eligible to fish in it if it is postponed to another weekend.

August Tournament:

The August Hawg Hunter tournament finally blasted off at safe daylight on Saturday, August 30th, a week late and many miles south of its original scheduled time and place. Fighting Tropical Storm Faye, high muddy water at the tournament site, Labor Day Weekend and the approach of Hurricane Gustav seven intrepid anglers enjoyed a beautiful, but hot day, on the waters of the Tensaw River.

The high muddy waters at Holley Creek, and along the entire length of the Tensaw River, dictated that the tournament site be moved to the Delta area with a launch site of Scott's Landing along the highway 90 causeway. While the tournament was one of the smallest in recent club memory, it had the flavor of a top six tournament since five of the fisherman were in the clubs top six. We actual have seven members in the top six this month as there is a tie or sixth place.

At blast off, four boats moved across the delta looking for the elusive black bass. One boat with Jere Jaillite and Bill Myrick on board headed up to Mifin lake area where Bill won the June tournament. Much to their surprise they found that while that water was high it was clear and very fishable. Using worms and crankbaits, Bill and Jere were able to put more keepers in their boat than the entire club was able to muster the month before on the Escambia River.

At weigh in Jere took top honors with 4 fish weighting in at 3.66 lbs but a dead fish reduced his weight to 3.46, and his partner, Bill Myrick was right behind with 2 fish at 2.06. Third place went to Frank Kelly with 2 fish weighting 1.82 lbs. Fourth place and lunker went to Mack Cramer who with his finish in this tournament moved into second place and has set up a show down for the clubs angler of the year. With two tournaments to go only four points separate the top two fishermen.

Next month we return to the Alabama River out of Swift Creek for a two day tournament and hopefully cooler days and hotter fishing.
