Message From The President:

What a fish-off! Most of us had a great time gorging ourselves on all-you-can-eat catfish Friday night, followed up by all had all-I-could-eat steak Saturday night. Great time joking and jawing both nights. Oh yeah, the fishing was also OK. Actually, the fishing was very good considering the water level. Hope northern AL and GA get some rain soon or we might not be going north to fish next year. We didn't have anyone in the "also fished" column, though some did catch more than others. I won't list the results. You can look at them in the tournament results portion of the newsletter.

Congratulations to the new E-board. I'm confident they will all do a great job. Their first order of business will be to select our 2008 Fishing Sites. If you have any input, I'm sure they would love to have it. Just email or call any of the new E-board members. John Buck - President, Jere Jaillite - Vice President/Treasurer, Marc Churchwell - Secretary, Dave Dyess - Tournament Director, and Jim Bailey, Sr. - Assistant Tournament Director. As Sweet Pete put it so elegantly at the close of the October meeting, "If you don't submit any proposed fishing sites, don't complain about those selected" or something to that effect.
Speaking of Sweet Pete, I would like to thank him and his better-half Vi for opening their home for our steak dinner. Vi's famous brownies and ice cream were the perfect finishing touch to the dinner.
Well that's it for me. It's been quite a busy two years as your President.
If I've been taken off your Christmas lists for any decisions made by myself or by the E-board, I'll have to live with it, but my goal was to ensure any decisions made were made with the best interest of the club, not an individual or group, in mind.
I want to again thank the outgoing
E-board for their hard work and support this past year. It was a pleasure serving with you.
See ya at the November meeting. Remember it is a week early because of Thanksgiving. Meeting is on November 14th and we fish on November 17th.

Minutes of the Meeting:

The October Pensacola Hawg Hunters meeting was brought to order at
7 P.M. on October 17, 2007 at Founaris Brothers Restaurant. President Kevin Simmons presided. There were 17 members present.

Old Buisness:

Mack passed out a handout with information regarding insurance for club members through B.A.S.S; Kevin will also send to all members via
e-mail.

New Buisness:

Nominations for E-board:
John Buck - President
Jere Jaillite - Vice President/Treasurer
Dave Dyess- Tournament Director
Jim Bailey Sr-Asst Tournament Director
Marc Churchwell - Secretary
These nominations were accepted without objection by all club members present.
No other nominations were made so this is the E-board for 2008.
Discussion of an alternate location for the awards banquet to be held at a restaurant on Garden St. called Crema. The cost would be ~ $25 a person but we would be the only customers in the restaurant.
Pete mentioned that all ramps but one are closed on Lake Martin due to low water levels.
REMINDER !!! Annual dues for the next season must be paid before the end of the November meeting.
The proposals to the Constitution and by-laws were voted on and the new revisions will be posted on the Hawg Hunter website.

Good To The Order:

Pete opened his home for a cookout on Saturday night during the Fish Off. The club's special fund will pay for the steaks, bake potatos and salad. Dave Dyess will bring the grill and pick up the food to be reimbursed.
Kevin mentioned that the club has fallen a little short on the $150 minimum spent on food during meetings and recommends looking for alternative meeting sites.

Dwayne Kimbro is selling his bass boat - and passed out flyers with all the information.
Pete offered a room at his house to be used by one of the pairs in the tournament. The room was to be auctioned off but Kevin drew out as going solo and Pete offered him to just stay with him and save the club the expenses.
The November and December meetings will be one week earlier than is normal due to holidays.

October Tournament:

This year looked to have a pretty exciting finish with the top 4 spots being separated by only 13 points. Anything could happen during this final two day tournament. The first day looked like there was a good chance the places were going to get shuffled a little bit. Half the club caught a limit; a total of 52 fish weighing in at just under 83 lbs for a pretty good start to the final tournament of the season. Day 2 only 1 less fish was caught for an overall total of 103 fish but the weight was down by about 10 lbs. Still the overall weight of just over 155 lbs and was the most weight caught by the club at any one tournament this year.
That's the way the fish off is supposed to be!

1st Place
John Buck

John Buck maintained his consistency and averaged over 8 lbs each day for a combined total of 16.26 lbs to take home first place. John also caught the lunker on day 2 - 3.23 lbs.

2nd Place
Jere Jaillite

Jere Jaillite captured 2nd place with a good bag of fish on day one - over 9 lbs and brought in another limit on day 2 for a combined total of 14.92 lbs.

3rd Place
Mack Cramer

Mack Cramer had a solid effort over both days with a combined total of 13.73 lbs for 3rd place and to hang on to 1st place overall for the season.

4th Place
Jeff Weaver

Mr. "and you thought I was sleeping" Jeff Weaver who has really been coming on strong the past couple of tournaments made another strong showing with limits on both days and a total of 13.64 lbs to finish in the money for both the fish off and the tournament.
Glenn Kittrell only caught one fish on Saturday but it was a big one and turned out to be the lunker of the tournament at 3.62 lbs!
Other than a little fog to start the day on both days and a strong wind kicking up around 10:30 on Sunday it was great weather for fishing.
Between the big steak dinner at Pete's house and the great fishing weather along with lots of fish caught and the true fish stories everyone seem to have a good time. Overall the fish off weekend would have to be considered a real success for the club. Good job to everyone for a fun and safe year of fishing. Thanks to Pete and Vi for opening their lovely home to us.
