The Blue Angel Recreational Park will probably be the site. Last years picnic was a great time with all the family's and friends. Let's try to make this one just as good if not better. For any inquirys contact Mack or Pete. Rich Cornelius and Dwayne Mills will coincide as Secretary until Dwayne has departed for North Carolina.

We had another nomination for the Slammer award. It seems that one of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters tried to float his boat over a sandbar, but to no avail he was stuck for about half the night.

May Tournament:

The May tournament was held at Miller's Ferry out of the Ellis Landing. There were 23 Hawg Hunters and one guest present to fish at safe daylight. Quite a few Hawg Hunter's did some pre-fishing and as usual there were some fish caught with them pulling water. One of the Hawg Hunters missed the channel markers and ended up on a sandbar. Thanks to the Marine Patrol for finding him and getting him off. The temperatures felt like a late winter day instead of a late spring day. Of course as luck would have it there was a COLD front that had just passed through dipping the temperatures down into the upper 60's for a high. The wind was out of the North at 15 - 25 mph. There was a steady rain that was coming down to make it more enjoyable. Mother Nature decided to give the Hawg Hunters some reprieve and slacked off on the rain about 11 o'clock. Even though she let up on the rain, ole man winter was still trying to keep a hold on things with his northerly winds. With all of that said, there were a few fish caught for this tournament.

John Buck was able to find a 5.30 lb largemouth that was willing to bite on his hook. This fish took lunker for the day and won the 4 lb "Boo-Ray" pot. John had one other fish that gave him a total weight of 6.80 lbs, which was good for first place.

May Tournament:

Brian Metcalf having motor problems managed to find three bass to put in his livewell that weighed 5.20 lbs for second place. Rich Cornelius was able to put four keeper bass in the livewell on Carolina rigged lizards that weighed 4.25 lbs which was good enough for third. Dave Dyess again made it into the top six with two fish weighing 3.85 lbs. Paul Sulllivan brought two fish to the scales for 3.45 lbs for fifth place and Jere Jaillite rounded out the top six with two fish for 3.35 lbs. With the extremely tough conditions at hand the Hawg Hunters were able to bring in 32 fish for a total weight of 45.95 lbs. Most fish were caught Carolina Rigged lizards and Texas rigged worms with a few coming off of spinner-baits. The top-water bite was non existent with the weather conditions at hand. Congratulations are in order for John Buck for his lunker and the win of the tournament. John is now the points leader for "Fisherman of the Year", with Brian Metcalf, Mack Cramer and Rich Cornelius close behind. With only nineteen and a half points separating the top five it is a close race with five tournaments left in the season, it is anybody's ball game. Don't forget that the June tournament is going to be a split tournament with two weigh-ins. There will be a five fish limit for each weigh-in taking place at 12:00 and 6:30. The heat of the summer is just around the corner, everyone needs to make sure they have plenty of water and sunscreen to protect them from the heat. Lunch will be served immediately following the 12 o'clock weigh-in. There will be hamburgers, hotdogs and chips on the menu. If anyone else has any other ideas or suggestions please contact the club "Chef" Mack Cramer.
