October Tournament:

The October Fish-Off tournament took place on the Alabama River in Millers Ferry out of Bridgeport and Ellis Landing. There were 24 Hawg Hunters present to fish at safe daylight. The newly elected tournament director called out the numbers and everyone headed out for day one of our two day tournament . Half of the Hawg Hunters headed up river and the other half headed down. There was a lot of running around by many boats to try and find a few bass that would cooperate. It was Mack Cramer who would come in with the only limit of the day weighing in at 9.45 pounds. Mack also took big fish for the day weighing in a lunker at 3.40 lbs.

Rich Renner brought four fish to the scales weighing 5.30lbs. and John Buck brought in three fish weighing 5.10 lbs. to round out the top three for day one. The Hawg Hunters weighed in a total of 39 fish for 57.85 lbs. for day one. We started day two with all 24 Hawg Hunters present, but two of the Hawg Hunters had a different boat to fish out of. Mitch Gardner and Rich Renner had motor problems the day before.
In any case they were up and running for the next day of fishing. Day two proved to be a much better day of fishing with overcast skies. Pete Potter brought in three fish that weighed in at 8.35 lbs. and the lunker for the day weighing 4.15 lbs.
Jeff Weaver brought in a limit of fish weighing 7.35 lbs.
and Wally Cassiano also brought in a limit of bass weighing 7.00 lbs. Wally and Jeff didn't have enough to catch Mack Cramer, but they did have enough to tie for second place. The Hawg Hunters brought 38 fish to the scales weighing 61.70 lbs. Congratulations are in order for Mack Cramer for bringing in seven fish for the tournament weighing in at 13.20 lbs. There was a tie for second place between Wally Cassiano and Jeff Weaver with 11.55 lbs. Great job Mack and great fishing everyone. Most fish were caught down deep with Carolina rigs and crankbaits. Congratulations are also in order for Brian Metcalf for winning the 2000 Fisherman of the Year honors.
