This Month's Report By

John Buck

Hotter than a jar of habienera pepper juice. That’s the best way I
know of to describe what this ordeal was like. It started out hot at 5:30 in the morning and only got hotter, the weather that is. For my partner Jim Bray and myself the fishing started out hot. We got into fish right away with both of us missing several on shad puppies fished along grass beds and then both hooking up on nice keeper fish. Then just as fast as it started.....IT QUIT !!!

Jim caught our next keeper at 3:20 in the afternoon on a cut bank with a worm. This had to be the hottest weather we’ve tried to fish through in several years. We had five of six boats that called it quits early. They were probably wise but there were a couple of us who hung in there (you know...kind a like a hair in a biscuit) until the last few minutes and it paid off as mentioned above.

I had one good laugh at my partner. He had been fishing barefoot through the morning then around 11:00 the boat rocked
and (I thought he had set a hook) he started dancing. Seems as if he stepped on a hot metal storage locker hinge. He was quick to get his shoes on. Except for fishing with a most enjoyable partner, it was really a tough day.

At the weigh-in there weren’t many tales of the big one that got
away, just feelings of relief that it was finally over. Only 13 Hawg
Hunters found paydirt and brought fish to the scales. Kevin Simmons, club president, found 3 nice bass wieghing 4.50 lbs. in Tensaw Lake, good enough for first place. He said that he caught his fish on a worm. Rich “Little Rock” Renner made a big move and wound up in 2nd place with a 2 fish limit (standard limit for him) weighing 3.65 lbs and a nice 2.75 lb hawg for the lunker on the day. John Schaeff rounded out the “top three”
with a creel which weighed 3.45 lbs. Congratulations to the top three and to all who caught fish!!!! The tournament results are listed below. They are not official. Good Luck and Keep Your Worms in the Water,
