TOURNAMENT REPORT
TENSAW RIVER

FEBRUARY 21, 2009

Cliffs Landing on the Tensaw River was the site for our February tournament. We had cold temps early but really warmed as the day progressed. Basically an incoming tide with a south wind for most of the day and that pushed in the water pretty heavy. Surface temps were near 55 in the morning but warmed to near 60 by mid afternoon in the creeks. High blue skies prevailed most of the day.

Mark Church well and I drew out as partners for the day. We had a great time but only caught a few fish. We started out in Oak bayou and then ran back into Oak Leaf. Early on the tide was low and we got few if any hits. We tried spinners, cranks, and worms. We never got anything going until the water rose with the incoming tide and south wind. We finally found a few fish in a small stretch of bank in Oak and I managed to get 3 keepers and Mark got 2. As always there were other tournaments going on also and another tournament boat slowed as it passed us and I boated a fish and they saw it. Well then they ran past and then passed us again going out and I boated another fish while they passed. About 15 minutes later here they came again and this time Mark boated a nice keeper. They thought we were really catching them…. hahaha…what a trick!!! They went around the corner and then proceeded to come in behind us on the bank we were fishing trying to find our fish. They didn't realize that those were the only fish we had caught all day. So they stayed a little while and when they found they could not catch them, they left. Mark and I got a good laugh out of it.

At the scales only 13 guys had fish to weigh. Dave Dyess and his partner Bob (big fish) Hanson each had limits. Dave had 5 fish for 8.17 lbs to take the win. Bob had 5 fish @6.69 lbs to take 2nd place. Third place went to a newcomer to the club, Ron Bridges with 3 fish @ 4.71 lbs. Way to go Ron! Taking the 4th slot was Lee Brannon with 4 fish for 4.68 lbs. An interesting pattern emerged from the top 7 places. 1st and 2nd came from the same boat, 3rd and 4th came from the same boat, 5th place was a solo boat, and 6th and 7th came from the same boat. Most fish were caught on worms with, yep you guessed it, green pumpkin and june bug being the favored colors. The lunker went to Ron Bridges at 2.41 lbs.

Our next tournament is a 2 day event at Lake Seminole. We should be there at a great time to land some really nice fish.
Make your plans to attend the meeting and the tournament. Also remember that you will need a Georgia license to fish Seminole.
Hope to see you at the meeting and the tournament.

‘Til next time….Keep Your Hooks Sharp!
