PENSACOLA HAWG HUNTERS
TOURNAMENT REPORT
JULY 22, 2006

The Hawg Hunters fished the mighty Escambia River for the July gathering. They had 18 fishermen looking for “the bite”. Nine of them caught keeper fish, but word has it that more than that found bites. Bluegills, warmouths, grinnels, and certainly yellow flies accounted for most of the other bites. Weather was clear and very hot. Water temps were in the 80’s.

Bringing home the bacon (once again), was Brian Metcalf. He had a limit of keepers that managed to squeeze 5.56 lbs from the scales. Tony Boyette captured 2nd place with 3 fish for a total of 3.90 lbs. In 3rd place was Mark Churchwell with 2 fish for 2.09 lbs. John Gasparak was 4th with 1 fish for 1.79 lbs. That fish was also the lunker! Congratulations to all who were able to find a keeper fish. The word I got was that it was really tough.

From what I’ve been told most of the fish were caught on worms and soft plastics. Almost all of the fish came from upriver above the Quintette Bridge.

Due to a family reunion I had to miss this tournament, but I’m looking forward to fishing the next one which will be on the Choctawhatchee River out of Black Creek Lodge. This tournament will be our last summer month “short” tournament, safe daylight until 2:00 PM.
We will resume the 4:00 PM weigh-ins at the September tournament.

Remember to prepare for the heat by drinking plenty of water prior to the tournament and having plenty with you in the boat. Also, keep those livewells running and give the fish a chance to bite again! Til next time…
