"FISHING WITH FRED"
covering tidal waters and impoundments

Wet Windy and Cold

The weather is cold, wet and windy…let's go fishing!
Cabin fever sets in real bad about this time of year,
but what are the bass doing.
Well, they are very slow, but they are still there and still biting
if you have the patience and personal commitment
to brave the conditions long enough to find them.

The key to finding and catching fish this time of year is to
s l o w down and down size. Use some logic,
the fish are not feeding aggressively so it may not be a bad idea to change where you look.

In area rivers the normal plan is to fish the moving water and ambush points, however in cold weather conditions the bass will not expend the energy to move to those places or fight the current. This is a good time to fish the pockets and eddys where the bass do not use the energy.

Small jigs, six inch worms and small spinnerbaits add rattles to the worm or jig and be patient. The hits will be slight,
but you can catch enough fish to cure the cabin fever.
I also like the darker colors because the water is often stained and darker colors are easier for the fish to see in stained water conditions.

Good luck, and keep your line wet.
