Too Hot to Fish

The heat is on and those long days on the water take their toll, so this is a great time to do some maintenance. Let's start with some basics on the boat. Battery checks. Check fluid levels, terminals for corrosion and cable connections. A few minutes here can save hours of headache.
This is also an excellent time to check switches and pumps to see all are working properly and don't forget those running lights.

Now lets go to the trailer. When is the last time you checked your bearings and seals on the hubs.
Is tire pressure correct? All lights and wiring ok?

Next lets get our rods and reels cleaned and lubed. You do not have to be an expert to take the cover off your reels and simply flush out the dirt and grime with a can of WD-40. This will increase the reel life greatly. Don't forget to replace any old or worn line after cleaning. Check the guides on your rods.
A great tool to check for cracks is a 'Q-tip', just rub it through each eyelet to check for cracks.
If it snags replace the eye. You can clean the cork and your rods will look like new.

If you use these tips on some of those hot, hot days it will add life to your equipment and make your next trip more enjoyable.

Better luck next time, Keep your line wet.

Fred
