Tensaw River Report
Cooler weather is here and the shrimp are moving into the grass in the Delta. The bass have to be close behind. I fished a tournament Saturday and the majority of the fishermen went to the grass. I was one of them. I started in the mouth of a creek and managed to boat a 4.5 pounder on the third cast. Not a bad start for a cold morning. I continued to fish the crankbait another 30 minutes and nothing. I still felt good about the one in the well, but knew I needed more to get in the running for the top spot. I analyzed what I had observed so far. One hit, one fish, near eelgrass. I went to a green pumpkin worm thinking with the good watercolor that might be the ticket. I moved out onto the main river and immediately started catching fish. By noon I had five solid keepers but with the falling tide and north wind, all my eelgrass was on the shore. I ran up river looking for grass but no luck, I fished some of my known honey holes still only five in the well still looking for six and seven. Finally at 3:10 p.m. I caught a short one back in a creek mouth. I continued to work the leading and trailing points and managed to put number seven in the boat at 3:35 p. m. When I got the weigh in I quickly learned that there were several limits, seven to be exact. My fish were solid and the good kicker made my confidence run high. I was first to the scales and posted a 10.95 stringer. That set the mark and the others all came up just short of taking the lead from me. It was a great day after the cool start. It is always good to see good numbers of fish caught and a good showing at the scales. Most of the fish came from eelgrass in the south end of the Delta.
This may just be the right time to get out there and get your share.

Tensaw River Report
With the recent rains the Delta is a tough place to fish. A tournament Saturday was fished out of Cliffs with boaters going out in all directions looking for their limit. After a long hard but beautiful day the pickins were slim at the weigh in. There was one limit, three three's, one two and a bunch of one's.
I started out north, only to find the water out in the woods. I fished some, checked out some places I thought would have cleaner water but no luck. So I headed south to find something productive.
Noon found me without even a hit, and I kept looking. I saw some other boaters and found one with three fish. I was shocked, he said he caught his on Chug Bug and worms near the causeway.
Finally at 3:00 p. m. I boated a two pounder on a jig in the main river. It was blowing but not as bad as the south wind making a bumpy ride for most boaters. Reports are that topwater was working good
for a few of the top finishers. Prettywell everything else was caught on green pumpkin worm.
It was a great day to be on the water, but the fishing was
needless to say, tough.

Tensaw River Report
Several of us fished the Tensaw river Saturday. Some went north, some west, some south. All seemed to find the fish hard to come by. I went to the Tensaw Lake area. I did manage to catch 3 small fish but no keepers. My fish came on a bandit crank bait. I talked with a number of guys who went south to Conway, Crab, Lower Crab, McVay and Oak Leaf all had about the same story
a few small fish.
Wally managed to put the winning stringer together, one 3 pound fish caught in Dennis on a crankbait.
It was a great day on the water, temps were not too hot, the water conditions seemed 'right',
the fish just did not see the same opportunity to ride in our boat as we did.

Put in on the lower end and stayed down south all day. Started the day throwing floating worms and sallys in the grass, as soon the sun came up the small fish began cooperating. Picked up 12 short fish and one keeper. The tide was just starting to fall good with the North wind blowing, so I decided to fish points and creek mouths. As the morning wore down I picked up another keeper, 10 more shorts, two reds and two specks using a rattle-trap. Continued working the same pattern with floating worms and picked up one more keeper (a little over two pounds) and another seven or eight short fish. Just about all fish were found in 2' - 4' of water with grass on the bottom. The day became pretty hard to fish in the wind so I decided to call it a day. Hope to see you on the river, good luck and be safe.

Decided to take a trip to the river this afternoon to get rid of those Sunday afternoon blues, and take a prospective buyer for my boat out on the water. We hit the water about 3:30 and ran for about 20 minutes. I asked him if he wanted to run all afternoon or try to get some fishing in. He decided to try and get some fishing in. I had brought two rods so we were all set.
One was rigged with a floating worm and the other with a soft jerk bait. We were down in the grass and I saw fish swirling all over the place. We immediately started getting hook-ups.
Was I happy to see that we were able to put some quick fish in the boat. Sure makes selling a boat much easier. The action was fast, but the presentation had to be slow. The bass were deep in the grass and even the little ones were hard to pull up out of that stuff. We pulled the boat out of the water at 6:00 and we had put 12 fish into the boat, four solid keepers that didn't need measuring and eight shorts. With the bass in post spawn mode they wanted the bait slowly falling. With the river starting to fall the fishing is picking up quite a bit. Till next time, good luck on the water and tight lines.
