Panhandle Bass Club fished a one-day tournament on Millers Ferry Reservoir. We had 16 members and 4 guests. At weigh in time all present had caught fish except one, however there were no limits and several fishermen had only 1 fish.
I went up on Friday and managed to catch 4 bass and located several others. I found fish in the larger creeks, and on the main river. The pattern was not well defined. Finesse worm, Carolina rig brush hog, crank bait, spinner bait
and buzz bait. When I got in and talked with others most caught fish on Friday. Patterns varied with soft plastics taking the lead.
Walter McCartney fished with me and he quickly put a keeper in the boat ($1.00 fish) on Saturday morning on a spinner bait. We continued to work the area and I managed to loose two big fish before boating my first keeper. We moved on up river to one of my secret spots and I had gear problems in my lower unit
we started fishing wondering how we would return the 20 miles back to the landing. Rich Cornelius saw us and we told him about our problem, he agreed to come back and take our fish to the scales and arrange for help getting the boat back. So we continued to fish, I found two more bass on wood with a Junebug worm.
Rich returned about 3:00 pm and we decided to let Walter go back to the landing and bring my truck up to Bridgeport to recover the boat.
At the scales there were no limits, and no big fish. Chris Malena had big fish at 3.97 # and finished third with 3 fish 7.54 #, following in second was Billy Blackwell with 5 fish 8.85# and our tournament winner with 5 fish 9.80 # Wayne Thomley (he wouldn't let Dora catch one!).
It was a good trip no major problems, summer time is here so be prepared with your sunscreen.
Keep Your Line Wet!!
