Tensaw River
Cliff's Landing

The Panhandle Bass Club held its December tournament out of Cliffs Landing on the Tensaw Delta. Seventeen brave fishermen faced the 29 degree weather and 15-20 mile north winds.
The day did warm up if you could get out of the wind but it was still cold.
Boat problems plagued some fishermen, but all were able to return without major mishap.

Reports were that there were some good fish coming from the Northern part of the Tensaw earlier in the week, but we had about 50% go south for the grass. The water was low and the North wind make it get out fast making some problem for those looking for grass. I went north and managed to find a Grinnell bed. The rule for me was catch 5 Grinnell then one bass all on crankbait.

At the weigh in we found that most everyone managed to find some fish. There were only two fishermen who zipped. Reports were that worms, jigs, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits produced the fish…imagine that. The tournament ended with a tie for first by Troy Beedle and Rich Cornelius with just over 10 pounds. They both reported that they caught fish flipping timber up river. Troy had one nice 6 + pounder to anchor his stringer. Billy Blackwell had third with 5 grass fish but I do not know how he caught them. I was fourth with 4.22 pounds on crankbaits (bandit).

There were two other clubs at Cliffs that same day so it was pretty crowded even for the dead of winter.
I cannot imagine how it will be with LiveOak closing in the spring.

Keep Your Line Wet !!
