"FISHING WITH FRED"
covering tidal waters and impoundments

After the Hurricane

Now that Georges has departed and the rivers are high and muddy many of us wonder where can we go to catch fish?
What has the high water done to our favorite spots.
Well the truth is the high water has flushed out the swamps and tributary creeks. It has moved some deadheads also, as well as added a bunch of new floaters.
The fish don’t know all that, all they know is that there is an abundance of forage in the water and the dinner bell is ringing.

I fished the Tensaw Delta last week and had a great day.
I managed to boat sixteen keeper bass before noon!
As always I put my plan together a couple of days before heading to the water. It is early fall, the water is high, but falling, and probably heavily stained. This time of year the bass should be moving up the ledges and into the creeks, so I started out on the main river and worked into the mouth of a creek.
I saw shad moving so I tied on a shad colored crankbait.
First cast I got a hit just as the bait moved off the flat over the ledge, I paused and the fish nailed it a 1 ¾ pound bass.
Next cast a twin to the first and that went on until I had boated 16 keeper bass.

When we weighed in there were several fish caught by all fishermen. The high stained water had not hurt the aggressiveness of the bass this weekend, even with a high pressure blue bird sky.

Keep your line wet…work your plan.
