"FISHING WITH FRED"
covering tidal waters and impoundments
Early Spring Means Early Spawn
The exceptionally warm weather we have had has not gone unnoticed by the bass. Water temps are rising and arousing the spawning instincts of bass in area waters.
There have been numerous reports of large stringers coming
from Escambia River, Stone Lake, Lake Holly and even Perdido. With our warming trend we should all be seeing increased pre-spawn activity
the question is 'will we be ready'.
Check out the areas known for spawning activity, and check out the route the bass will follow to get to those areas.
You may find the bass finicky and hard to catch, you may not feel the pick up, or they may blast the bait out of the water.
But if you will work the pattern both with a fast moving
bait then follow up with a worm or lizard you should be able to take advantage of these staging fish.
Follow the points back to the creek mouths and on back into the flats. My choice would be a buzzbait or a spinnerbait going in and then switch to a lizard and crawl my way back.
Once you locate fish, stay with them, many times the fish will school up this time of year.
Then follow that pattern in other areas with the same make up.
It is great to have this kind of weather this early in the year so go out and enjoy it.
Keep your worm wet
