I Really Tried To Go Fishing Today
We were having a garage sale this morning, and I left to go get breakfast from McD's.
I stopped for gas and truck #1 wouldn't start. The fuel pump
died (I think - it's in the shop). So I called home.
Wife was swamped with people so she asked me to wait.
I decided to walk the 3 miles back to the house in the 90 degree (100+ heat factor) temps. Finally got there.
After the people left and we shut down the garage sale around 1130am, I decide to go fishing on Escambia River, Pensacola FL. I hooked up my Stratos to my Suburban and headed out.
On I-10 I felt a lot of shaking. Since the front tire is scalloped real bad I thought that was it so I left I-10 and drove highway 90. OK, not awful bad so far, right?
Anyway, things just deteriorated from here.
Suddenly there was a real loud banging and the truck started shaking REAL bad! I slammed on the brakes at 60 mph and headed off into the grass.
My Right rear tire had come apart and destroyed the right exhaust pipe at he same time.
Now, I have a spare but...
The jack that came with the truck will not lift the wheel clear of the ground. The air stayed in the tire. Also the lug nuts on the wheels are almost too narrow for the spare.
(difference between nice wheels, and stock rims).
The truck ended up in a fire ant field. What luck.
I hobbled along slowly till I was clear, then unhooked the boat. Called the wife to let her know what happened. Nearly pointless since truck 1 was gone and now truck 2 was down!
Ended up calling for roadside service from a local establishment. The truck had died in an open area -no shade. The heat index was not pushing 105 - 110 at 2pm.
While I waited past an hour I decided to try to fix it myself.
Got the tire changed after 45 minutes and then they pulled up. Meanwhile the police dorve by 2 times without stopping, two cars stopped for 1) directions, 2) needed transmission fluid.
When I finally got the tire changed it only had 20 lbs of air and needed 80! Used my little compressor and it took forever to get to 40 psi. Decide I would finish it in the next town (Milton). Hooked up the trailer again and headed off.
Kept hearing a scraping sound and wondered what else was going to go wrong. It went away. Finally, when turning onto the I-10 on ramp I heard it again and stopped to check.
The trailer jack was still down, and had been for some 20 miles!
Finally, at 5pm I got home. Got a 12 pack of BUD LIGHT and swore I was not going to do anything else for the
rest of the night!
Now, in retrospect, I sure am glad that I did not get the boat in the water for it surely would have crapped out on me too!
Like I said, I really did try to fish today!
Good Fishing!!
