"BOBS LOCAL RIVER REPORTS" What is a Confidence Bait? Have you ever fished along side of someone and wondered why they were catching all the fish and you were not? You use the same bait, fish it the same way, and in the same places, but still your behind three or four to one! Does this person know something you don't? Is he, or she, a better angler that you? While it may be possiable, there is probably a much more accurate answer to these questions. Prehaps the other person is using what could be termed his "confidence bait" while you are simply using another bait. What is a confidence bait? Surely its not something you can look up in your handy dictionary, or is it? Confidence would be defined as faith, trust or assurance and the bait part we all already know. So a confidence bait would be one you have faith in. A bait which you feel confident can put fish into the boat. It stands to reason that the more you use a particular bait, the more profecient you will become with it. You'll come to know every little trick that can be employed with that lure, and you'll fish it much more productivly. This fact alone will translate into more fish caught. If you sit back and think for a few minutes, I'm sure you can think of one bait that has accounted for a large number of fish. If, when the action slows, you find yourself reaching for this one bait, it could be that it's your confidence bait. What everything boils down to is this: If the fish can be caught on a particular bait, use that bait. But, if the fish are ignoring your offerings then look into your tackle box and find your ace in the hole, your confidence bait. Its probably sitting prominantly on the top shelf, paitently waiting to be used once more. Good luck.
