Deer point
June 9, 2002

Washington Co. Bass Club has a rule that anywhere they fish during their regular Tournament season, their end of the year classic can't be fished there. They also don't fish in Nov. or Dec. so some months there are 2 tournaments and June was one of those months. On June 9th Deerpoint Lake was eliminated from the list as Classic sites. Congratulations to Alan Hall for getting not only his first win of the year but his first win since he has been with the Washington Co. Bass Club, and probably the first win of his life. (ha ha) Alan brought in a nice limit of bass that weighed 9.84 lbs. Reliable Harlon Register was right on Alan's tail with another limit that went 9.69 lbs and took 2nd place. Dyb Dybdal, who didn't even get to the lake till about 8:00, had another good limit that weighed 9.00 lbs and took 3rd place. Jesse Tyre took Big Bass honors for the Tournament with a 3.89 pounder and Dyb Dybdal had the Tournaments Big Jack that weighed 1.56 pounds.

Winning lure: Plastic Worms
Winning Pattern: fishing openings in the grass.

On June 23rd WCBC held it's 2nd tournament at Howells Landing on Lake Seminole. With the wind blowing a constant 20 mph fishing was very rough on the open water. But everyone still headed out with great expectations for the day. In the first 10 minutes I put a 4 pounder in the boat, a 3 pounder in the boat, one fell of as I was lifting him in the boat and 2 more good blow-ups, all on Buzz Baits.
Then I should have gone back to the truck and went to sleep, because those were the last strikes I had all day. Keith Birge said he had his limits in just a few minutes and caught one here and there all day long. (show off) Keith's limits weighed 10.19 lbs as he got his 2nd win of the year.
(both at Lake Seminole) Harlon Register also brought a 10.19 pound stringer to the scales but Keith's biggest fish was bigger than Harlon's so Keith got the win. Dyb Dybdal took 3rd with 5 that weighed 8.21 lbs. David Rogers had Big Bass for the day, it weighed 4.78 lbs. Jesse (jack fish) Tyre had Big Jack, it weighed 1.30 lbs.

With Harlon's two 2nd place finishes these Tournaments he took over the lead for the Sportsman of the Year by 9 points over Kyle Brooks and is ahead by 12 pounds for the Angler of the Year race.

Don't forget the top 12 points leaders at the end of the year will go on to the Washington Co. Bass Club Classic to compete for around $2,500.00. (site to be chosen at the end of the year) Right now a lot of us are bunched up with only 10 points separating 5th through 12th place.

Good Fishin, Allen Courtney
