TUESDAY NIGHT SHOOT-OUT
(Deer Point Lake)

TUESDAY NIGHT SHOOT-OUT
Deer Point Lake

The weights just keep getting better and better! Deer Point Lake is certainly becoming one of the best Bass Lakes around. This past month it has taken an average of 14 pounds to win. The team of Rutherford & Cress took the win one night with 19.90 lbs and they didn't even have Big Bass for that night, just a great solid stringer that would be good anywhere in the country. There's Big Bass weighed in each week as well. Most of the time it takes one around 6 pounds or better. One evening Dan Szumiesz and myself teamed up because both of our normal partners were out of town. We were approaching one spot when I told Dan that when we get their to be sure and make a couple of cast because if there's one home, it's usually a big one. We both made a cast to the area, both hoping she would be home. Then I watched as Dan reared back and set the hook an instantly what we had came for jumped about a foot out of the water. I was trying to bring my lure in and get the net when I realized there wasn't time, so I dropped my rod and grabbed the net when the wind (blowing 20 mph) blew my line onto Dan's rod and across his face, while he's still fighting this fish trying to keep it out of the grass. After what seemed to be forever we finally got her in the net. It ended up weighing 7 lbs 5 oz. It sure is nice when you call the shot rite! It's been a month now and that spot has produced a limit or more 5 different times since then. I guess you could call that a honey hole! Another evening I was unable to make the Tournament, (the office is trying to train me?) so my usual partner, Wes Hughson used my boat and took his wife (Jessica) in my place. With a small cool front and 15 - 20 mph winds for the evening, the fishing was very tough for everyone. At the end of the evening Wes said he had a new appreciation for the person in the front of the boat, trying to cast and run the trolling motor in all that wind. At weigh-in that night they came in second and when the money was handed out Dunnie made sure he gave it to the BOSS. Maybe she gave Wes some?
So come join us every Tuesday night from 6:00 PM - 9:30 PM, At High Point Landing, on Deer Point Lake. The Bass Tournaments are open to anyone. The entry fee for these Tournaments is $15 per person, one or two people per boat with a 5 fish boat limit. These Tournaments have been going on for around 15 years now. The turn out is great with an average of 40 fishermen each week. The weights will just keep getting better as the grass keeps growing. So if your interested just show up with your boat and money ready to go, but make sure you have all the equipment on your boat to be legal. Get a ticket, get disqualified!
